A 30-year-old man from Rajasthan was arrested on Friday for allegedly selling hash oil (cannabis oil), opium, and methamphetamine in Coimbatore.
The accused has been identified as A. Bhanshi Lal Guthara, a native of Jodhpur district in Rajasthan. He was apprehended by the Prohibition Enforcement Wing (PEW) police following a tip-off.
Police said the arrest was made during a search conducted near a private school on Thadagam Road. During the operation, officers recovered 45 grams of hash oil, 375 grams of opium, and 4.5 grams of methamphetamine from the accused.
Preliminary investigations revealed that Guthara had moved to Coimbatore a few years ago and was residing near Kanuvai in the district, where he runs an iron and steel business. Police said he frequently travelled to Rajasthan to procure narcotics and sold them to local buyers in Coimbatore.
A case has been registered against him under various provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. He has been remanded to judicial custody at the Coimbatore Central Prison, and further investigation is underway to trace his supply network.
