A 36-year-old man, Raimohan Topno, was arrested on Monday night in Odisha’s Bonai subdivision (Sundargarh district) for allegedly killing a recently released murder convict.
The victim, 42-year-old Suleman Topno of Kendudih village, had been out on bail for just two months after spending five years in prison for murder. According to locals, Suleman frequently quarreled with villagers and issued threats.
On Sunday around 4 PM, Suleman went to nearby Hatiwada village and began arguing with Raimohan Topno without provocation, reportedly threatening to kill him. Enraged by the threats, Raimohan picked up an axe and fatally attacked Suleman.
Following the incident, Raimohan fled the scene. Police reached the site Sunday evening and recovered Suleman’s body. On Monday, Chandiposh police and a forensic team examined the location and sent the body for post-mortem.
By Monday night, police apprehended Raimohan and seized the murder weapon. “Further investigation is ongoing,” said P.K. Sethy, Inspector-in-Charge at Chandiposh police station.
