In a major breakthrough, Delhi Police have arrested Rahul Dev, a 33-year-old resident of Faridabad, for orchestrating a sophisticated cyber fraud scheme. Dev posed as a casting agent for a prominent music company and exploited the dreams of aspiring actors and models.
The operation came to light when a Shahdara resident filed a complaint after being contacted on social media by someone falsely claiming to represent a music company’s casting team. The victim was promised a role in a music video and was asked to pay over Rs20,000 for flight bookings to attend an audition — with a promise of a refund that never materialized.
Following the registration of an FIR on April 11, investigators traced a fraudulent bank account to one Ekta Sharma. Upon interrogation, Sharma disclosed she was acting on Rahul Dev’s instructions.
On May 6, authorities apprehended Dev in Chandigarh. Investigations revealed that Dev, along with an accomplice, had used similar tactics to deceive at least 17 individuals.
Authorities have urged the public to be vigilant and report suspicious casting offers, especially those demanding upfront payments.
