The Udhampur Police arrested three inter-district drug peddlers during routine naka checking at Tikri Naka Point, recovering 15.51 grams of heroin from their possession.
A police team from Police Post Tikri, led by ICPP, intercepted a vehicle travelling from Jammu to Udhampur. The driver identified himself as Rafiq Ahmed, while the two co-passengers gave their names as Arun Singh and Amandeep Singh.
Upon conducting personal searches, authorities recovered the heroin and immediately arrested all three individuals. An FIR (No. 49/2026) under Sections 8/21/22/29 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act was registered at Police Station Rehambal, and the investigation is ongoing.
Earlier this month, Udhampur Police also arrested Rakesh Kumar, a resident of Bishnah, Jammu, who had been evading arrest for over two and a half years in a separate NDPS case. Kumar was apprehended by a team led by PSI Rhythan Sharma under the supervision of SHO Inspector Purshottam.
Kumar’s case dated back to October 12, 2023, when a car carrying 105.06 kg of poppy straw was intercepted near Phalata. The driver had fled, abandoning the vehicle. An FIR under Sections 8/15 of the NDPS Act was lodged at Police Station Rehambal. Continuous police tracking led to Kumar’s arrest after years on the run.
