A 32-year-old migrant worker, identified as R. Santhosh Kumar, was arrested on Monday for the brutal murder of an elderly couple in Jagir Ammapalayam, Salem.
The victims, R. Baskaran (70) and his wife B. Vidya (65), were found dead in their home on Sunday evening, with jewelry stolen from the premises. The crime sparked a swift response from Suramangalam police, who formed five special investigation teams to trace the culprit.
By analyzing CCTV footage from the neighborhood, police identified the suspect as Santhosh Kumar, a native of Bihar, who had been working in Salem for 15 years and resided near the victims’ house.
Santhosh Kumar was arrested and is currently in police custody. The incident has shocked the local community, highlighting growing concerns over neighborhood safety and migrant integration.
