BATON ROUGE, La. — Quincy Lathers, 44, a New Roads Police Department officer, was arrested on charges of distributing oxycodone and possessing a firearm with controlled substances, the East Baton Rouge Sheriff’s Office reported.
The investigation began on January 29, when narcotics agents received information from a confidential informant alleging that Lathers was selling oxycodone and Xanax while wearing a sheriff’s office uniform. On February 4, the informant arranged to purchase pills from Lathers in East Baton Rouge Parish.
Equipped with recording devices and documented funds, the informant purchased 50 30-milligram oxycodone pills while agents maintained surveillance. After the transaction, agents stopped Lathers and found New Roads Police Department-issued equipment, including body armor, a pistol belt, a badge, and a Glock 17, along with the cash from the drug sale.
The same day, Livingston Parish Sheriff’s Office executed a search warrant at Lathers’ home in Denham Springs. Authorities recovered $3,800 in cash, 5 milliliters of promethazine, and a Ruger .22-caliber rifle.
During a recorded interview, Lathers admitted the oxycodone came from a source he called “uncle,” stating he had only sold drugs once or twice before and intended to return the money to his supplier. Livingston Parish authorities plan to issue an additional arrest warrant based on evidence found at his home.
Lathers was booked into the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison on charges of distribution of a Schedule II narcotic and possession of a firearm with controlled dangerous substances.
