Puttur Town police have arrested three women in connection with the theft of a gold chain from a 67-year-old devotee during a religious programme at a temple in Kemminje village, Puttur taluk.

The victim, Yamuna, 67, attended the temple on Friday wearing a gold chain weighing approximately 14 grams. After having lunch at the temple, she went to wash her hands. Three unknown women, who accompanied her to the wash area, allegedly removed the gold chain without her knowledge and fled. The stolen chain is valued at around Rs 60,000, according to Yamuna’s complaint.

A case was promptly registered, and police arrested Maari, 40, Sheetal alias Priya, 25, and Kaliyamma alias Bhagavathi, 42, all from Tamil Nadu, on the same evening.

Authorities revealed that the trio is also linked to similar thefts reported in Padubidiri and Puttur Rural police stations, indicating a pattern of targeting devotees during temple visits.
