In a significant breakthrough against vehicle theft, Thoubal police have arrested two individuals and recovered six stolen vehicles, authorities announced during a press briefing on Saturday at the office of the Superintendent of Police.
The accused have been identified as 28-year-old Pussam Azamaluddin of Lilong Atoukhong and 23-year-old Makakmayum Nawaz Khan of Lilong Awang Leikai. Azamaluddin was found in possession of a blue Honda Activa and an orange Honda Dio scooter, while Nawaz Khan had an orange and white KTM motorcycle and a black and red Bajaj Pulsar NS.
In addition to the vehicles directly linked to the suspects, police also recovered a chrome Royal Enfield motorcycle and a silver Hyundai i20 Asta. The Royal Enfield was found abandoned after the rider fled in Lilong, while the Hyundai was recovered from Yairipok Singga, left behind by an unidentified driver.
Speaking to the media, SP Dr. S. Ibomcha Singh cautioned the public against purchasing vehicles at suspiciously low prices or without proper documentation, warning that doing so could result in legal trouble if the vehicles are found to be stolen.
The suspects and recovered vehicles have been transferred to Yairipok and Lilong police stations for further investigation. Efforts are ongoing to trace and apprehend others involved in the theft ring.
