In a significant victory against drug trafficking, Punjab Police’s Counter Intelligence (CI) in Amritsar dismantled a narco-terror module with the arrest of four individuals and the recovery of four kilograms of heroin, said Director General of Police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav on Sunday.
The arrested individuals have been identified as Sukhwinder Singh and his son, Navjot Singh, both residents of Amritsar, along with Aniket and Gurpreet Singh. Police also impounded their black-colored three-wheeler auto and a motorcycle, which were used to transport the drug consignments.
DGP Yadav revealed that intelligence led police to discover the group’s involvement with Pakistan-based drug smugglers. The gang had recently retrieved a drug consignment from the Attari area, intended for local peddlers. Acting on a tip-off, police conducted a raid near the Government Hospital in Naraingarh, Amritsar, arrested the suspects, and seized the heroin.
Initial investigations show that the operation is managed by an overseas-based individual named Bhullar. It was revealed that Sukhwinder and his son, Navjot, had received a consignment of four kilograms of heroin from an individual in Rajatal village, Amritsar. They then distributed half of it, two kilograms, to Aniket and Gurpreet for further distribution.
Interestingly, two other individuals related to the accused were also involved in previous drug cases. Sukhwinder Singh’s other son, Harmanjit Singh, and Aniket’s brother, Sagar, were arrested by the ANTF of Mohali in January and are currently in Amritsar Jail. Their connections to the smuggling network are also under investigation.
DGP Yadav stated that the ongoing investigation aims to trace the broader network and identify both the supply sources and the local peddlers involved. More arrests and recoveries are expected as the probe progresses.
