In a significant breakthrough for anti-narcotics operations, the Punjab Police arrested Sukhdev Singh alias Sukhi, a drug peddler, and seized 3.5 kg of heroin from his possession in Ferozepur. The arrest took place following an operation based on reliable intelligence regarding Sukhi’s involvement in smuggling activities.
The Director General of Police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav confirmed that Sukhi was in direct contact with a Pakistan-based smuggler who was reportedly using drones to drop drug consignments across the border into India. The police team, led by AIG Counter Intelligence Ferozepur, Gursewak Singh Brar, conducted a successful operation near village Lakho Ke Behram in Ferozepur, where they apprehended Sukhi. Seven packets of heroin, each weighing 500 grams, were recovered from him, concealed in a plastic bag.
DGP Yadav stated that initial investigations revealed Sukhi’s role in the cross-border drug smuggling network, and further efforts are being made to uncover both the forward and backward linkages of this illicit operation. A First Information Report (FIR) has been filed under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act at PS
In his statement, Yadav emphasized Punjab Police’s commitment to dismantling drug cartels and ensuring a drug-free Punjab. The ongoing investigation aims to trace the full scope of Sukhi’s connections and activities within the drug smuggling ring.
