Vrindavan, UP: In a significant crackdown on illegal immigration activities, Punjab police have arrested Saurabh and Pragati Gupta, a couple allegedly running a ‘kabootarbaazi’ racket. The term ‘kabootarbaazi’ refers to fraudulent services offering to send individuals abroad using forged documents.
The couple purportedly charged aspirants large sums ranging from Rs 50 lakh to Rs 2.5 crore per person, promising immigration services to Canada. They had been operating discreetly in Vrindavan, maintaining a spiritual facade to disguise their illegal activities.
Authorities confirmed that the arrests were made following multiple complaints lodged with the Punjab Police. Further investigations are ongoing to gather more evidence and determine the full extent of the scam.
The case highlights the growing trend of visa fraud and fake immigration services exploiting hopeful migrants willing to pay exorbitant fees.
