In a swift operation, Pune Police arrested three habitual offenders involved in a string of mobile phone thefts in the city. The arrests followed a snatching incident on April 2nd, 2025, when a victim reported that three unidentified individuals on a red and black motorcycle forcibly stole their mobile phone outside their shop. The suspects fled the scene after snatching the phone.
After receiving the complaint on April 3rd, a case was registered under the Indian Penal Code (IPC) at Samarth Police Station (Case No. 65/2025). The investigation, led by senior officers, involved analyzing CCTV footage and gathering information from confidential informants. The police team identified the suspects who were seen riding a motorcycle near Utara Chowk, Somwar Peth, and promptly apprehended them.
The arrested suspects were identified as:
Aniket Amar Dhage (25 years old), resident of Katraj Kondhwa Road, Khopade Nagar, Pune
Sahil Nasir Sayyed (27 years old), resident of Ghorpadi Peth, PMC Colony, Pune
Pranav Prakash Thakur (24 years old), resident of Phulwala Chowk, Sunday Peth, Pune
Upon interrogation, it was revealed that all three had criminal histories:
Aniket Dhage had seven prior cases of robbery and crimes against the body.
Sahil Sayyed had seven prior cases of theft and crimes against the body.
Pranav Thakur had three prior cases of theft and crimes against the body.
During a search of the suspects’ motorcycle, four stolen mobile phones were recovered from the luggage compartment. The suspects admitted to stealing these phones from various locations in Pune. One of the phones, a red Me brand, was confirmed to have been stolen from the victim in the original April 2nd snatching case.
The Pune Police have seized the stolen mobile phones, and the investigation is ongoing.
