In a major crackdown on the illegal narcotics trade, the Narcotics Cell of Pune Police arrested four individuals on April 30 for selling ganja at two busy locations in the city: Wakdewadi bus stand and Pune Railway Station. The arrests followed two coordinated operations conducted by the Anti-Narcotics Squad.
Pappu Devri (32) – Resident of Odisha
Chandan Kunwar (29) – Resident of Odisha
Rakesh Pawra (25) – Resident of Dhule district, Maharashtra
One minor – Also from Dhule district
In the first operation, the squad received a tip-off that ganja was being sold near Pune Railway Station. Acting quickly, the team detained Pappu Devri and Chandan Kunwar, seizing 30 kilograms of ganja valued at approximately Rs6.24 lakh from their possession.
In a separate operation at Wakdewadi bus stand, Rakesh Pawra and a minor were arrested under similar charges related to ganja distribution.
Police have registered cases under the NDPS Act (Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act). The minor has been handed over to the juvenile justice board, while the other three accused remain in custody. The investigation is ongoing to trace the source and network involved in the supply of the contraband.
This operation reflects the Pune Police’s commitment to disrupting the supply chain of narcotic substances and preventing their circulation, especially in areas frequented by youth and commuters.
