Puducherry Police Arrest Trio for Fake Gold Jewellery Scam

Sureshkumar Linked to Anna University Case Among Arrested

by Ananya Mehta

Puducherry Police have arrested three men for pledging fake gold jewellery worth Rs 10 lakh at a jewellery showroom in Mudaliyarpet.

The accused include Sureshkumar (33) of Kottur, Chennai—brother of Gnanasekaran, the sole suspect in the Anna University campus rape case—along with Prasanth Kumar (28) of Kottivakkam and Shek Ismail (26) from West Bengal.

The arrests followed a complaint from Ramu of Ashok Jewellery Pawn Shop on Cuddalore Main Road, Mudaliyarpet, reporting that the accused had pledged counterfeit gold. Police raided a hideout on ECR and recovered Rs 1.1 lakh in cash along with materials used to manufacture fake jewellery.

The trio has been handed over to authorities for further investigation into the fraud.
