Chandigarh: After over four years, Chandigarh police have filed a chargesheet against Professor BB Goyal of Panjab University in connection with the murder of his wife, Seema Goyal, whose body was discovered at the couple’s official residence on Diwali night in 2021.
Seema’s hands and feet were tied, and cloth was stuffed into her mouth. Initially, Professor Goyal claimed that an outsider had killed her and fled, shifting the body to a hospital before authorities arrived.
Post-mortem reports revealed she died of strangulation. Investigators found that the window grills had been cut from inside and no valuables were missing, contradicting Goyal’s robbery story. Family members indicated frequent arguments between the couple and suggested the crime was committed by someone inside the house.
During the investigation, Goyal underwent a polygraph and brain-mapping test, which contributed to his arrest in December last year. The chargesheet names over 20 witnesses, including family members. Seema was Professor Goyal’s second wife.
