Pratapgarh Police Arrest Drug Peddlers, Extortionist

Over 5kg ganja seized; man held for social media extortion

In a significant law enforcement action, Pratapgarh police arrested two drug peddlers and seized over 5 kilograms of illegal ganja, along with Rs 250 in cash and a two-wheeler. The arrest took place near Naya Mall Godown Road, where the duo was reportedly planning to dispose of the narcotics.

The accused have been identified as Pawan Shukla (26) of Raniganj and Sagar Maurya (21) of Jaunpur. Both have been booked under Section 8/20 of the NDPS Act for possessing and intending to distribute illegal substances.

In a separate case, Aspur Devsara police arrested Kuwar Singh (25) of Setapur for extorting money from a woman by threatening to upload her vulgar photographs on social media. The complainant stated that she had befriended Singh on a social media platform, after which he gained access to her photos and videos. A case has been registered against him under Sections 308(5) and 351(3) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).

Authorities have emphasized that both arrests reflect the police’s ongoing efforts to combat drug trafficking and cyber extortion in the district.
