In the largest drug seizure in Jaisalmer’s history, police on Friday confiscated MDMA drugs valued at approximately Rs3.35 crore from a Gujarat-registered SUV near the city’s railway station. Two suspects — Prakash Bishnoi (28) of Phalodi and Prem Prakash Bishnoi (28) of Chomu — were arrested in connection with the haul.
Acting on intelligence, a coordinated operation was launched by the District Special Team (DST) and Kotwali police under the supervision of Superintendent of Police Abhishek Shivhare and station officer Premdan. The SUV was intercepted near the railway station, and although the suspects attempted to flee by ramming a police vehicle, they were successfully apprehended.
During the search, police discovered 336.4 grams of MDMA, popularly known as ecstasy, concealed in the vehicle and intended for street-level distribution across Jaisalmer city. The seized contraband was packaged in small quantities, ready for sale.
Further interrogation revealed that one of the accused, Prakash Bishnoi, had previously been booked under the NDPS Act. Authorities are now probing deeper into the network, suspecting a larger trafficking operation that extends beyond state lines.
SP Abhishek Shivhare called the bust a “major victory” in Jaisalmer’s intensified crackdown on narcotics. This seizure forms part of a special anti-drugs campaign being carried out across the district to dismantle trafficking networks.
The SUV and contraband have been taken into custody, and legal proceedings under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act are underway.
