A 70-year-old murder convict in Uttar Pradesh, Pradeep Kumar Saxena, who had disappeared nearly three decades ago after jumping parole, has been arrested by Bareilly police.
Saxena was convicted for murdering his brother, Sanjeev, in 1987. After escaping parole, he allegedly changed his religion, assumed a new identity, and lived a life of obscurity.
Officials revealed that Saxena had converted to Islam, altered his appearance by growing a long beard, and had been residing in Islamnagar, Moradabad district, approximately 100 km from Bareilly.
The arrest brings to a close a 30-year-long manhunt for the fugitive, who had managed to evade authorities for decades by changing his identity and blending into the local community.
