In a coordinated crackdown, Delhi police arrested three men for allegedly duping a man of around Rs 22 lakh through a fake investment and trading scheme.
The accused have been identified as:
Prabhat Vajpayee alias Amanda (22) from Ghaziabad
Mohammad Abas Khan (24) from Imphal East, Manipur
Arpit Mishra alias Professor (25) from Jaipur, Rajasthan
Police revealed that the trio, inspired by web series about scams, replicated online fraud techniques to cheat victims through social media groups.
The case surfaced on October 1, when complainant Rohit (32), a resident of Gokalpuri, filed a complaint alleging he was cheated of Rs 21.77 lakh by fraudsters posing as representatives of a reputed financial firm. Rohit was lured into investing in a “Direct Market Account” promising high returns. When he attempted to withdraw profits, the scammers froze his account and demanded additional payments to “unlock” the funds.
Investigations included analysis of bank records, phone data, and technical footprints. This led to the arrests of Prabhat and Abas, during which authorities seized 11 mobile phones, 17 SIM cards, 32 debit cards, and other materials.
During interrogation, the duo revealed the identity of their associate Arpit, who was later arrested from Siliguri, West Bengal, along with three mobile phones and several SIM cards recovered from him.
Police continue investigations to determine if there are additional victims linked to the trio’s cyber fraud network.
