POUGHKEEPSIE, NY — A 24-year-old man from Poughkeepsie was arrested on April 23, 2025, following a traffic stop in which authorities seized illegal narcotics.
Members of the Troop K Community Stabilization Unit (CSU) observed a 2023 Chevrolet Malibu driving on South Clinton Street, in violation of New York State Vehicle and Traffic Law. The troopers initiated a stop, speaking with the operator, identified as Hudhayfah Abdullahi, and his 26-year-old male passenger, both from Poughkeepsie.
A K-9 from the Town of Poughkeepsie Police Department, named Kaya, conducted an exterior scan of the vehicle, which resulted in a positive alert for the presence of narcotics.
Upon further investigation, troopers observed crack cocaine in plain view on the driver’s seat. A subsequent search of Abdullahi’s person revealed approximately 41.2 grams of crack cocaine, 4.2 grams of fentanyl, and $2,252 in cash.
The passenger was released without charges, while Abdullahi was arrested and charged with multiple drug-related offenses:

Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance, 3rd Degree, with Intent to Sell – 2 counts (B felony)
Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance, 4th Degree (C felony)
Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance, 7th Degree (A misdemeanor)
Abdullahi was arraigned at the City of Poughkeepsie Court and remanded to Dutchess County Jail. Bail was set at $200,000 cash or $400,000 secured bond.
The investigation continues as authorities work to address the growing concerns of drug trafficking in the area.
