In a swift and focused crackdown, the Porvorim Police apprehended Kishorbhai Macchi, alias Ajay Ranpariya (44), a notorious repeat chain snatcher from Gujarat, following a gold chain theft worth Rs1.8 lakh in the PDA Colony area.
The crime occurred on July 24, when Macchi, posing as a courier delivery agent, deceived a local woman and snatched her gold chain before fleeing the scene.
Police promptly launched an intensive investigation, leveraging CCTV footage and technical surveillance to track the accused. Their efforts led to a guest house in Calangute, where Macchi was caught.
During interrogation, Macchi confessed not only to the recent PDA Colony theft but also to a similar incident in Saligao last June. Further inquiries revealed his extensive criminal history in Gujarat and Rajasthan, linking him to numerous chain-snatching cases and establishing him as a habitual offender.
The investigation is ongoing, with authorities collaborating with police in Gujarat and Rajasthan to uncover potential accomplices and resolve other unsolved thefts across Goa.
