Portland Police arrested Jessie J. Gehrmann, 38, a lifetime sex offender registrant, on Thursday following a sting operation. Gehrmann was allegedly attempting to sell a stolen GPS system.
The investigation began when police were notified about a stolen GPS from a ship at Union Wharf. Officers learned the device was taken between May 9 and 13. During the investigation, an online ad selling the GPS system was traced back to Gehrmann.
In response to the ad, officers arranged a meeting with Gehrmann, posing as buyers. When he arrived, police arrested him without incident.
Gehrmann now faces charges of theft by receiving stolen property, a felony due to his previous convictions, and probation violations.
In 2016, Gehrmann was convicted for sexually assaulting a five-year-old girl in 2006. The crime was unreported until 2015, when the victim’s mother came forward after the victim disclosed the assault. Despite pleading guilty, Gehrmann served only one year of a seven-year sentence, with the remainder suspended.
