BENUE STATE, Nigeria — The Benue State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of two serving police sergeants in connection with a suspected armed robbery operation that led to the recovery of a stolen vehicle and firearms.

According to police sources, operatives from the command’s surveillance patrol team acted on credible intelligence to intercept a red Toyota Corolla (2010 model) with registration number NEG-35-AE. The vehicle had reportedly been stolen at gunpoint in Akwanga and was en route to Keffi.

Investigators said the suspects breached a police checkpoint at Angwan Lambu, prompting a coordinated pursuit by security operatives. The vehicle was eventually stopped at a military checkpoint near Uke, where the suspects were arrested.

Police said a search of the vehicle led to the recovery of one AK-47 rifle with a breech number, three magazines loaded with 16 rounds of live ammunition, one black face mask, three mobile phones, and other personal items.

Further identification revealed that the suspects are Sgt. Shedrack Abednego, attached to the Special Tactical Squad (FID), Abuja, and Sgt. John Ayuba, attached to the CP Crack Squad, Federal Capital Territory Command.

Authorities said investigations are ongoing to determine the full extent of the officers’ alleged involvement and whether they are linked to other criminal activities.
