by Ananya Mehta

On Wednesday, Odisha police busted a criminal gang involved in vehicle theft and cattle smuggling by arresting two members, Arman Saha (25) and Iftikar Alam (23), while their accomplices remain at large.

Police Commissioner S Dev Datta Singh revealed that the duo was linked to about 15 vehicle theft cases across Bhubaneswar, Khurda, Puri, and Cuttack over recent months. Authorities recovered 10 stolen vehicles, mostly goods vans.

The gang used duplicate keys to steal parked vehicles at night, removed their license plates, and concealed them in nearby forested areas. Investigations indicated these stolen vehicles were used in illegal cattle smuggling activities.

Further probes suggest some vehicles were scrapped to cover tracks. Police continue their search to apprehend remaining members and uncover the full scope of the gang’s crimes.
