Pimpri-Chinchwad Police successfully dismantled an inter-district ganja trafficking racket on Friday, arresting three individuals, including a woman from Chakan. The operation resulted in the seizure of 96 kilograms of ganja, valued at approximately Rs 63 lakh.
The arrested individuals have been identified as Sanjay Mohite (39), Mansaram Dhanaka (40), and an unnamed associate. Sanjay Mohite, a known criminal, has a history of previous arrests, including cases under the NDPS Act by the Kamshet, Loni Kalbhor, and Hyderabad police.
The police operation was launched after receiving a tip-off about the illegal transportation of drugs. Officers set up a naka bandi (roadblock) on the Pune-Nashik Road and intercepted two four-wheelers. Upon conducting a thorough search, police recovered six gunny bags containing 96 kg of ganja, along with two mobile phones, two vehicles, and cash.
Sandeep Doiphode, DCP (Crime), Pimpri-Chinchwad Police, explained that the drugs were being smuggled from Dhule to Pune for distribution in the local market. Fortunately, the police intercepted the consignment before it could reach its destination.
The arrested individuals are currently in police custody, and further investigations are underway. The authorities continue to probe the network behind this inter-district trafficking operation.
