The Pimpri Chinchwad crime branch cracked a Rs 3 lakh burglary case in Old Sangvi with the arrest of two men, traced through records of the Madhya Pradesh police. One suspect was arrested from Dungarpur, Rajasthan, while the other was nabbed in Ratlam, Madhya Pradesh.
The accused were identified as Anand Singh Sardar (22) from Rajasthan and Guredeep Siglikar (20) from Madhya Pradesh. A crime branch team led by Senior Inspector Arvind Pawar recovered gold jewellery and a motorcycle worth Rs 3.5 lakh from them.
Inspector Pawar said the duo would identify housing societies using online maps and target locked flats to steal valuables. On September 29, cash and jewellery worth Rs 3 lakh were stolen from a house in Old Sangvi while the family was away in Amaravati. A relative had filed a complaint with Sangvi police.
Sub-Inspector Bharati Gosavi explained that CCTV footage revealed the motorcycle used in the crime was stolen from Pimpri, prompting a case registration. The team analyzed over 100 CCTV cameras and traced the vehicle, leading to arrests in Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh.
The duo had prior burglary cases registered with Madhya Pradesh police. They traveled to Pune by bus, stayed in lodges using duplicate Aadhaar cards, and searched affluent housing societies online. They used a stolen motorcycle to scout buildings for potential thefts.
Gosavi added that while the duo broke into several flats, nothing was stolen from most of them, except for the one targeted burglary in Sangvi.
