A special police squad formed to tackle vehicle thefts in Pimpri Chinchwad has arrested four men in the last week and recovered 18 stolen motorcycles and two autorickshaws, valued at around Rs 7.25 lakh.
The accused stole 18 vehicles from different locations in Pimpri Chinchwad over the past few months, with one motorcycle stolen each from Thane and Mumbai.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone-I) Sandip Atole set up an anti-vehicle theft squad led by Assistant Police Inspector Digambar Atigre, focusing on thefts near Metro parking lots. The team reviewed footage from over 150 CCTV cameras across Pimpri Chinchwad and Pune to identify suspects.
Acting on a tip-off from Pimple Gurav, the police arrested Mubin Shaikh (25) and recovered 12 stolen motorcycles from his possession. Subsequently, three more men — Faiz Shaikh (22), Aman Shukla (19), and Sunil More (30) — were arrested. Police recovered six more two-wheelers and two autorickshaws from them.
Notably, Aman Shukla had stolen motorcycles recently from Thane and Mumbai in 2023.
