In a major breakthrough, Phulbani Town Police, under SP Harish Bishi and supervision of SDPO Shubhrajeet Bishwal, successfully dismantled a high-profile bike theft racket on Thursday.
Acting on crucial leads, the police team recovered nine premium motorcycles and apprehended four accused, including the alleged mastermind. The seized bikes included eight Yamaha R15 bikes and one Pulsar 200cc.
The operation was led by IIC P. Swaroop Kishan, whose team conducted coordinated raids across multiple locations.
The crackdown followed a complaint from Swarna Behera, whose Yamaha R15 was stolen on June 18 near her residence in Jiringipada. She provided CCTV footage of the theft and warned authorities of legal action if prompt steps were not taken.
Investigations revealed that the stolen motorcycles were linked to multiple FIRs across jurisdictions, including Bhubaneswar, Kharvel Nagar, Laxmisagar, Infocity, Chandrasekharpur, Bharatpur, and Maitree Vihar.
The arrested accused have been identified as:
Dillip Kanhar of Tikabali
Bikash Kanhar of Bahada Padar
Rudra Madhab Bagarti of Koti Maha
Chandan Digal of Talapada
Police confirmed that further investigations are ongoing to uncover additional links within the criminal network.
