PHUKET, Thailand — A man in Phuket has been arrested after allegedly firing a gun while intoxicated and shooting his wife, following an emergency call made by the couple’s young son, police said.
Officers from Thalang Police Station responded on December 21 to a call from the child reporting that his father, identified as Thattaphong, 41, had been drinking heavily and firing gunshots into the air at their home in Soi Nam Tok Ton Tho in the Thepkrasattri area. The boy told police his father later turned the weapon on his mother.
When officers arrived, they arrested Thattaphong at the residence. The victim, Wiphaporn, 35, had already been taken to Thalang Hospital by a neighbor after suffering a gunshot wound to her right shoulder. Police said she was conscious and receiving medical treatment.
According to investigators, the couple had lived together for 19 years and have two children. Wiphaporn told police she had been speaking with her son by phone when he warned her that his father was intoxicated and firing shots. She returned home briefly to drop off items and was leaving the area when she heard another gunshot and realized she had been injured. Neighbors assisted her and transported her to the hospital.
A search of the residence led to the discovery of a 9mm handgun and two homemade firearms, one capable of firing .38-caliber rounds and another compatible with 11mm ammunition, according to local media reports.
Police said a background check revealed Thattaphong had prior criminal charges, including assaulting a parent and insulting a police officer. He remains in custody and is facing multiple charges, including attempted murder, illegal possession of firearms, and discharging a weapon while intoxicated.
Authorities said the investigation is ongoing.
