VAN ALSTYNE, Texas (KXII) — A Van Alstyne man was arrested Thursday on allegations of animal cruelty after police reviewed a video showing him striking his dog.

According to Van Alstyne Police, the incident was reported in July when a witness claimed that Phillip Weller had repeatedly hit his dog. Authorities later obtained video evidence confirming the alleged abuse.

Following an investigation, Weller was taken into custody and booked into the Grayson County Jail on Thursday.

Police say the dog was examined by a veterinarian shortly after the incident and is expected to make a full recovery.
