A Peruvian fugitive convicted of drug trafficking in Argentina was apprehended in Hartford, Connecticut, on July 25 by Enforcement and Removal Operations (ERO) Boston. The 39-year-old man, who has a lengthy history of unlawful reentries into the United States, was taken into custody by deportation officers from ERO Boston’s Hartford field office.
This individual first entered the U.S. illegally near McAllen, Texas, on January 7, 2011. He initially claimed to be a Mexican citizen and was voluntarily returned to Mexico. Just a week later, he was arrested again after unlawfully reentering the country near the same border area, this time claiming to be from Guatemala. The U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) served him with a notice to appear before an immigration judge, who ordered his removal to Peru in April 2011. He was deported to Peru in June 2011.
Despite these prior removals, the fugitive reentered the United States unlawfully again on September 3, 2022, near Eagle Pass, Texas. After another arrest, he was issued a reinstatement of his removal order. He was subsequently enrolled in the Alternatives to Detention program and released on an order of supervision by ERO Laredo.
The man, who was sought by Argentine authorities for a prison sentence related to his drug trafficking conviction, was arrested once more in Hartford on July 25, 2024. He remains in ERO custody as deportation proceedings continue, and U.S. authorities are coordinating with Argentine officials for his extradition.
ERO’s efforts in enforcing immigration laws are part of a broader mission to protect U.S. communities by removing individuals who undermine the safety and integrity of the immigration system.
