PADUCAH, Ky. — A western Kentucky woman was arrested following an identity theft investigation involving an elderly victim.
Penny Baird, 60, of Paducah, was taken into custody on September 10 and charged with knowingly abusing or neglecting an adult.
The Paducah Police Department said the investigation began on May 29 after a 75-year-old woman, diagnosed with dementia, reported that Baird had taken her credit card and opened multiple new credit accounts in her name without permission.
Detectives reviewed bank statements and uncovered fraudulent transactions totaling approximately $3,900.
Due to the complexity of subpoenaing and analyzing financial records, the case took several months before charges were filed.
Baird was arrested at her home on the 100 block of Minerva Place and is now held at the McCracken County Jail.
