PITT COUNTY, N.C. — A Pitt County woman is facing serious charges after an investigation led to her arrest for elder abuse and domestic violence.
On August 20, officers arrested 53-year-old Penny Anita Spikes Utt of Grifton, North Carolina. The charges stem from a July 10 incident when Pitt County deputies responded to a residence on Ivy Road for an unrelated citizen assistance call. While on the scene, a deputy noticed signs of possible violent acts involving an elderly individual.
Following an investigation, the deputy presented the findings to a magistrate, who issued arrest warrants. Utt was formally charged with Felony Abuse of an Elder Adult with Injury and Misdemeanor Domestic Violence.
She was located and taken into custody by an officer from the Grifton Police Department. After being brought before a magistrate, Utt was denied bond.
Penny Anita Spikes Utt is currently being held in the Pitt County Detention Center and is awaiting her first court appearance.
