MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla. — Pedro Moreno, a popular Cuban-American telenovela actor, was arrested early Thursday morning on charges of strong-armed robbery following a domestic dispute with his wife of 17 years.
According to an arrest report obtained by Local 10 News, Moreno, 44, was taken into custody at around 4 a.m. after an incident that took place at the couple’s home near Southwest 150th Court in Miami-Dade County. Authorities stated that the actor, best known for his roles in shows like El Rostro de Analía, Una familia con suerte, and Me declaro culpable, had been arguing with his wife, with whom he is currently in the process of divorcing.
The argument reportedly began late Wednesday night around 11:20 p.m., when Moreno asked to use his wife’s cellphone and started going through it. When the victim asked for the phone back, Moreno allegedly refused, leading to a struggle. During the altercation, he forcibly removed the phone from her hands. Their oldest daughter, who witnessed the incident, then gave her phone to her mother so she could call police.
Fortunately, the victim was not injured during the dispute. The phone, valued at approximately $250, was returned to the wife by Moreno, according to the report.
Moreno, who was born in Havana and gained fame through his work on Mexican and U.S. Spanish-language television, is well-known among Hispanic audiences. As of Thursday, he remains detained at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center, with his bond yet to be set.
