Delhi Police have arrested Pawan (29) from Chandigarh and Mankiraat (36) from Firozpur, Punjab, for allegedly duping a woman of Rs21 lakh through a fake online investment platform.
According to officials, the duo operated under the guidance of Chinese nationals and were part of a broader cyber fraud network. The suspects even traveled to Nepal as part of their operations, suggesting cross-border coordination.
During the investigation, police recovered key items used in the scam:
An ATM card, chequebook, passbook, and SIM card linked to the fraudulent bank account
A mobile phone believed to be used for executing the scam
The police believe the gang lured victims through fake investment apps or schemes, promising high returns and then disappearing after receiving the money.
Officials noted that the operation bore hallmarks of organized foreign-led fraud, with Chinese nationals allegedly instructing the Indian operatives. Police are now working with cybercrime units and international agencies to trace the larger network.
Investigations are ongoing, and more arrests are expected as digital forensics on the seized devices continue.
