RIVERSIDE, Calif. — A 40-year-old Riverside man has been arrested in connection with a shooting that left another man in critical condition, authorities said.
The suspect, identified as Paul Chacon Workman, was taken into custody following a weeklong investigation by the Riverside Police Department.
On October 24, officers responded to reports of gunfire in a parking lot on the 6100 block of Van Buren Boulevard just before 6 p.m. When they arrived, they found a man in his 40s suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. The victim was rushed to a nearby hospital, where he remains in critical condition.
At the time of the shooting, the suspect was not found at the scene. After gathering evidence and witness statements, detectives identified Workman as the primary suspect.
Police located and arrested him on October 30 in San Bernardino. He was booked into the Robert Presley Detention Center on charges of attempted murder, negligent discharge of a firearm, and felon in possession of a firearm. He also faces sentencing enhancements for prior felony convictions.
Workman is being held on $1 million bail. Authorities have not released details about a possible motive or whether the suspect and victim knew each other.
Investigators are still seeking witnesses who were in the shopping center parking lot at the time of the shooting. Anyone with information is urged to contact the Riverside Police Department.
