A 33-year-old doorman in South Pattaya has been charged with assault after punching a 63-year-old British tourist during a late-night altercation.
The incident occurred on Saturday night when the intoxicated tourist was refused entry to a nightlife venue. Witnesses say the man became aggressive before the doorman struck him once, leaving him dazed and bloodied.
The Thai security guard, identified as Mr. Sarawut, claims self-defense, stating he tried to avoid the confrontation but was attacked first.
Police initially withheld charges pending the tourist’s statement. However, on Monday, March 3rd, Pattaya City Police confirmed Sarawut had been formally charged with assault causing harm.
The British tourist remains in hospital recovering, while authorities continue their investigation into the altercation.
