Jewellery worth lakhs of rupees was stolen from a shop in Patna, leading to the arrest of a staff member, Aniket, and his maternal uncle, Jishu Chakraborty, on Tuesday. Authorities recovered around 10 kilograms of silver anklets and other jewellery from the duo.
Abdul Haleem, officer in charge of Pirbahor police station, stated that the jewellery shop manager, Ranjit Malhotra, filed a complaint late Monday night after CCTV footage revealed a staff member stealing a piece of silver jewellery.
“During the investigation at the store, Aniket’s role appeared suspicious. A search found an anklet hidden in his jacket. Following information from Aniket, additional jewellery was recovered from his uncle’s house,” said Haleem.
It was revealed that Aniket had been stealing jewellery for 8 to 10 days, hiding the stolen goods at his uncle’s residence.
Police are still assessing the total value and quantity of the stolen jewellery.
