Parvati Police Arrest Two Men for Gold Chain Theft on City Bus

Crowd-based thefts surge in Pune buses during Ganeshotsav festival

Pune’s Parvati Police have arrested two men, Amar Shankar Jadhav (38) and Nilesh Shankar Jadhav (36), for stealing valuables from passengers on crowded city buses. The duo was caught after a gold chain weighing two tolas was recovered from them.

The theft occurred on August 11 between 10:00 and 10:30 am during a bus journey from Balajinagar to ST Colony BRT bus stop. Acting on a tip-off, police laid a trap and detained the suspects. A case was registered under Section 303(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita at Parvati Police Station.

The operation was led by Senior Inspector Nandkumar Gaikwad with support from Crime Branch Inspector Anita Hivarkar and several officers under Deputy Commissioner Sambhaji Kadam.

Other Recent Bus Thefts in Pune:

On August 26, thieves stole Rs 14,500 from a wallet in a backpack during a bus ride between Lal Mahal and Pune Railway Station (Bundgarden Police).

On August 23, jewelry worth Rs 2.25 lakh was stolen from a woman boarding a bus at Ravidarshan bus stop, Hadapsar Police reported.

On August 22, a gold bangle worth Rs 1 lakh was snatched at Shivajinagar (Shivajinagar Police).

On August 13, Rs 66,000 worth of jewelry was stolen from a bag at Wakdewadi (Khadki Police).

With Ganeshotsav festivities underway, controlling thefts in crowded buses has become a top priority. Police have deployed special squads, CCTV cameras, AI-enabled surveillance, and mobile monitoring vans to combat chain snatching, mobile theft, and harassment on public transport.
