LAKEWOOD TOWNSHIP, NJ — A tragic incident in Lakewood Township has led to the death of a 3-month-old baby girl, with her parents now facing charges in connection with her death.
On Monday, officers were dispatched to a home on Pinehurst Drive after receiving reports of a 3-month-old girl having trouble breathing. Upon arrival, they found the infant unresponsive and immediately rushed her to a nearby hospital. Sadly, the baby passed away the following day.
A medical examiner determined the cause of death to be blunt force trauma to the head, which caused fractures and a subdural hematoma. The manner of death was ruled a homicide.
On Wednesday, the baby’s parents, Ruben Santiago, 36, and Caitlin Gibson, 28, were arrested and charged with murder in connection to their daughter’s death. They are currently awaiting a detention hearing at Ocean County Jail.
