Parents Arrested After 1-Year-Old Tests Positive for Fentanyl and THC in Tuolumne County, CA
TUOLUMNE COUNTY, CA — The parents of a 1-year-old child have been arrested after the child tested positive for fentanyl and THC following two medical emergencies in late April, authorities said.
On April 22, deputies from the Tuolumne County Sheriff’s Office (TCSO) responded to a call reporting a medical emergency at a residence near Dutch Mine Road in Jamestown, California. The 1-year-old child had reportedly choked and temporarily stopped breathing but was revived on-site before being transported to a local hospital for further evaluation.
However, the situation worsened the following day. On April 23, the child was brought back to the hospital by 22-year-old Rory Kerr and 32-year-old Denaun Davis after becoming unresponsive. Medical staff administered CPR, successfully resuscitated the child, and transferred them to an out-of-area hospital where the child tested positive for fentanyl and THC. The child was diagnosed with fentanyl poisoning.
Following the hospital visit, TCSO detectives immediately launched an investigation. Investigators executed multiple search warrants and discovered numerous drug paraphernalia items, including narcotics residue and a used Narcan (naloxone) inside the family’s motorhome. The investigation revealed that one of the parents had administered Narcan during the initial medical emergency.
Both Kerr and Davis were arrested and booked into the Dambacher Detention Center on felony charges of child abuse, specifically abuse likely to cause great bodily injury or death.
The child has since been placed in protective custody. Authorities reminded the public that while Narcan is a life-saving tool for opioid overdoses, including fentanyl, it is temporary and should never replace proper medical care. Emergency responders should always be informed of any potential drug exposure for proper treatment.
