A disturbing crime from Haryana’s Panipat has come to light, where police have arrested a woman accused of murdering four children over the past two years. The woman, identified as Poonam, allegedly admitted during interrogation that she targeted children she believed were “beautiful,” driven by an obsessive jealousy toward their appearance.
According to police officials, Poonam confessed that she used the same method to kill all four victims—drowning them by holding their heads underwater and making the deaths appear accidental. The case unraveled after inconsistencies were noticed during the most recent incident, prompting authorities to launch a deeper investigation.
The latest crime occurred on December 1, when Poonam drowned her six-year-old niece in a water tub during a family wedding function in Sonipat. The family had stepped out as the wedding procession arrived in Naultha, leaving the child unattended.
Police revealed that Poonam’s alleged crimes date back to 2023, when she drowned her sister-in-law’s daughter. Her own six-year-old son reportedly witnessed the act. Fearing he might expose her, she later drowned him in the same way. To mislead the family, she fabricated a story that both children accidentally fell into a water container while playing.
Earlier this year, in August, she is accused of killing another girl in Siwah village, claiming the child was “prettier” than her.
Following a complaint and detailed investigation, Panipat Police arrested Poonam and charged her with murder. Officials confirmed that psychological evaluation and further questioning are ongoing to determine the full extent of her actions and whether more victims may be involved.
