Pamela Akinyi, Daniel Ogweno Arrested in Mombasa Drug Bust
Duo caught with cannabis parcel at Mwembe Tayari booking office
MOMBASA, Kenya — Two suspects were arrested on Sunday in a drug trafficking operation after police intercepted a parcel containing cannabis sativa at Mwembe Tayari, Mombasa.
Officers from Mombasa Central Police Station acted on a public tip-off regarding a suspicious package arriving by bus from Homa Bay. Police waited at the booking office where the parcel had been delivered.
Shortly after, Pamela Akinyi Ochichi and Daniel Agolla Ogweno arrived to collect the parcel, unaware they were under surveillance. They were arrested on the spot and taken into custody.
A search of the parcel revealed multiple rolls of cannabis sativa, which police have since confiscated as evidence. The suspects are currently being processed ahead of their court arraignment.
“We acted on credible intelligence from the public and moved swiftly to recover the drugs,” said a senior officer at Mombasa Central.
The arrest is part of a wider crackdown on drug trafficking in the coastal region, where authorities have intensified surveillance at transport hubs to disrupt smuggling routes.
Under the Narcotics, Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (Control) Act, trafficking cannabis in Kenya can lead to a fine of up to KES 1 million, 20 years imprisonment, or both.
