Pallavi Arrested for Murder of Retired Karnataka DGP

Wife Allegedly Stabbed Om Prakash at HSR Layout Home

by Ananya Mehta

The 64-year-old wife of retired Karnataka DGP Om Prakash was arrested on Monday for his murder, following her alleged confession of stabbing him more than 10 times at their home. Investigators also cited statements from their son, Karthikesh, who suspected both his mother, Pallavi, and sister, Kriti, of conspiring in the crime.

Police are still probing the exact motive, though Pallavi claimed she acted alone, citing a history of domestic violence. Kriti, 39, detained earlier, was released after questioning, with police noting that both mother and daughter were not speaking coherently during interrogation.

According to Karthikesh, his mother had issued death threats to Om Prakash for over a week, prompting him to temporarily stay at his sister Saritha Kumari’s residence. Kriti convinced Prakash to return home last Friday. The family lives in a four-storey house in Bengaluru’s upscale HSR Layout, with separate floors for different family members and a tenant on the second floor.

On Sunday, while Prakash was having lunch—ordering fish fry online—Pallavi allegedly sprayed chilli powder on his face, stabbed him multiple times in the neck, shoulder, and abdomen, and struck him with an oil bottle. Karthikesh reportedly learned of the murder from a neighbour around 5 pm.

Police revealed that Pallavi messaged a friend, the wife of a retired IPS officer, stating she had killed a “monster” and also made a WhatsApp video call to show Om Prakash’s body lying in a pool of blood.

Following her arrest, the case was transferred to the Central Crime Branch (CCB) for further investigation. Pallavi has been remanded in judicial custody.
