Palampur Police have arrested Abhishek Sahota, a key figure in an interstate drug racket, and his wife Punit Kaur, both from Bariyana village, Jalandhar. The couple was allegedly behind a heroin (chitta) distribution network that spanned across Palampur and Mandi districts.
The arrests were made following the registration of an FIR on November 20, after an individual was caught in possession of heroin. During the subsequent investigation, it was uncovered that local drug peddlers in the region were sourcing their supplies from Jalandhar-based distributors.
A special police team, led by SHO Bhupinder Singh and supervised by SP Kangra, raided a house in Bariyana village, where the couple was arrested. Both Abhishek Sahota and Punit Kaur were brought to Palampur and presented in a local court, which subsequently remanded them to police custody for further investigation.
The authorities are now focusing on dismantling the larger drug network and investigating any additional individuals involved in the trafficking operation.
