BURIEN, Wash. (WKRC) — A pair of robbers allegedly kidnapped a woman, shot her multiple times, drilled a hole in her hand, and stole $20,000 in jewelry from her — yet she survived.
According to a probable cause arrest affidavit obtained by Law&Crime, deputies responded to an apartment complex to perform a welfare check after a caller reported hearing a scream and a gunshot. The neighbor had not been able to reach the victim by phone or at her door. About an hour later, deputies received a second call that a woman was found on the side of the highway, suffering from gunshot wounds.
The victim was taken to the hospital and was able to explain the terrifying events to authorities while recovering. She told police that as she was walking toward her apartment, two men in a compact car approached her and said they had been waiting for her. One of the suspects, armed with a gun, stated that he knew she lived alone and had been waiting for her to return home around 6 to 7 p.m.
The victim reported that one of the suspects fired a shot at her but missed. They then forced her into their car and drove to an ATM, where they drilled a hole in her hand to try to force out her bank password. The suspects also took her purse, which contained $20,000 worth of jewelry. However, they only withdrew $40 at the ATM.
After the suspects decided the victim knew too much and needed to be killed, they pulled over to a retention wall. One of the suspects shot her again, but the victim was able to duck just in time, causing the bullet to hit her shoulder instead of her head. Believing they had killed her, the victim played dead until the men left.
The victim then crawled over the retention wall and flagged down help while bleeding from her shoulder wound. Meanwhile, the suspects returned to the victim’s apartment, stole her car, and drove off.
Police tracked the stolen vehicle to a hotel more than 170 miles from the crime scene. 24-year-old Kevin Daniel Sanabria Ojeda was arrested at the hotel, where authorities found the vehicle, the drill used to harm the victim, and the stolen jewelry.
25-year-old Alexander Moises Arnaez-Gutierrez, the second suspect, was arrested months later. Arnaez-Gutierrez is reportedly linked to the Venezuelan gang Tren De Aragua.
Both suspects have been charged with attempted murder, kidnapping, and robbery.
