A Kearny, New Jersey, man is facing multiple serious charges after authorities say he fatally shot another man with a bow and arrow over the weekend.
Prosecutors identified the suspect as Oscar Feijoo, 44, who is accused of killing 45-year-old Pablo Criollo of Harrison. Surveillance footage captured Criollo walking along Kearny Avenue around 6:45 p.m. Saturday, shortly before he was struck. A witness later reported seeing an arrow lodged in his back.
Criollo was transported to University Hospital in Newark, where he later died from his injuries.
Investigators said the arrow was fired from a weapon inside Feijoo’s home on Kearny Avenue. When police attempted to make contact, Feijoo allegedly barricaded himself inside the residence, prompting the response of the Hudson County SWAT team.
According to prosecutors, Feijoo then started several fires inside the home, triggering a large blaze. Officers eventually entered the residence around 1 p.m. Sunday and took Feijoo into custody. Authorities said he was armed with multiple knives at the time of his arrest.
Neighbors described Feijoo as a recluse who kept to himself and was rarely seen outside.
Feijoo is now charged with murder, weapons offenses, and arson, with additional charges possible as the investigation continues. Officials have not yet determined what led to the deadly incident.
Criollo’s wife, Paula Arnez, and other family members expressed deep grief following his death. Arnez said her husband had been walking home from work to save time and was looking forward to payday the next day to buy a table for Christmas decorations.
“He was so happy that day,” Arnez said through a translator, adding that her family is seeking justice.
