GEORGETOWN, GUYANA — A man accused of a violent robbery was granted $80,000 bail on Monday following his court appearance in Georgetown.

Orwin Fraser, also known as “Lilawattie,” appeared before Magistrate Faith McGusty at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court, where he faced a charge of robbery with violence.

The charge stems from an incident that occurred on April 10, 2025, on King Street, where Fraser allegedly robbed Melville Marks of a cellphone valued at $78,000, a $5,000 backpack, and $15,000 in cash, totaling $98,000. Fraser is further accused of using personal violence during the robbery.

The prosecution noted that a key police officer involved in the case was unable to attend the hearing. As a result, Magistrate McGusty granted Fraser bail in the amount of $80,000 and scheduled the next court date for August 8, 2025.
