A 19-year-old Palm Bay resident, Orlando Colbert-McGlon, was sentenced to 25 years in state prison for a 2022 shooting that left another teen injured. At the time of the incident, Colbert-McGlon was 16.
The sentence, which includes charges of attempted first-degree murder, juvenile possession of a firearm, and aggravated battery, will be followed by five years of probation. He will receive credit for three years already served, meaning he could be released in approximately 22 years.
The shooting occurred at Nungesser Park when Colbert-McGlon approached a car and fired at a 17-year-old, hitting them in the neck and face. The victim survived after being dropped at a fire station by friends and underwent multiple reconstructive surgeries.
Palm Bay police stated that Colbert-McGlon and the victim initially connected via Snapchat over the sale of vape pens. Investigators believe a drug-related debt owed by an unidentified third party may have motivated the attack.
Assistant State Attorney Francis DeMuro described the crime as senseless and emphasized that Colbert-McGlon’s decision to use a firearm has permanently altered the course of his life.
Evidence presented at the trial included the victim’s testimony, bullet casings, and a bloodied shirt. Colbert-McGlon will be transferred to the Florida Department of Corrections following his time at the Brevard County Jail Complex.
In December 2024, he also pled no contest to possession of a “paintball sock” modified into a bludgeoning weapon.
