TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — A licensed Florida health insurance agent has been arrested for allegedly orchestrating a $323,000 fraud scheme involving more than 100 fake insurance policies, officials said.
Omar Hibbert is accused of creating fraudulent policies using another agent’s personal information and collecting commissions totaling $323,505. Hibbert was apprehended in Miami-Dade County and faces charges of identity theft, organized schemes to defraud, and insurance fraud.
The arrest was announced by Florida Chief Financial Officer Blaise Ingoglia, who highlighted the Department of Financial Services Criminal Investigations Division’s dedication to combating fraud. “My office is serious about ensuring that the rule of law is upheld. We are dedicated to protecting Floridians and holding anyone who commits fraud accountable,” Ingoglia said.
The case follows a separate state investigation in which a former state employee processed more than 220 bogus property damage claims, defrauding taxpayers of $1.7 million. Authorities said the arrest of Hibbert underscores ongoing efforts to address some of Florida’s most brazen internal and financial fraud schemes.
